This year, we have really ramped up the amount of live music we have gone to see! A bit after seeing My Chemical Romance, Dann and I went along with Quang to see Palace Bowl Presents Jimmy Eat World, along with their supporting act Rise Against. They did also have Jay Som and The Get Up Kids playing, but we were most interested in Rise Against and Jimmy Eat World, so went along for only those.

Getting to the Palace Bowl was wild! As we went later in the day, we got in and saw there were hundreds and hundreds of people. This is an open-air stage, with a lot of space around it. There were a ton of food stands and a merch stand around the edges. It felt very much like the vibes of the Hichin Priory Summer Sessions we saw last year. The big thing about this specific performance at Palace Bowl Presents, was that Jimmy Eat World was palying their entire Bleed American album, for their 25th anniversary.

Rise Against came on before the sun had set, and we were in a perfect place to watch! This was the band Dann was most excited to see. The way that the land is here, the stage is higher up but the land gets higher the further back you go as well, giving you a better angle of it all. It felt like everywhere was a good space to see the band. Rise Against had a lot of stage presense – lots of dancing, moving around, great use of lights. They also had a guitarist who was lunging a lot of the time – it was wild.

Then, Jimmy Eat World came on after a bit of re-shuffling of the stage. There were some new lights in the background of the start, which moved quickly. I found that as much as I loved the music from Jimmy Eat World, the stage presence wasn’t as good. Often, between songs, the actual stage bit went completely dark and blinding spotlights went right onto us. It was a little much!
The audience was also fvery intense at the Palace Bowl Presents Jimmy Eat World, where there were constant mosh pits towards the front and a lot of people who were crowd surfing. It felt like they did not stop and often they were shown via the camera man on the big side panels. It felt like everything was easy to see and the music itself was fantastic.
You can check out our other Days Out to see what else we’ve been up too!
